wtfile for Windows

Rename downloaded files by what's inside them

File names from websites and email rarely say what the file is. wtfile watches your Downloads folder, reads each new file, and renames it by its content: what kind of document it is, who it's from, and its date.

Free for 25 renames, plus a Pro trial on 25 files. No account, no card, no subscription.

What it reads

PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text and CSV files. Camera photos are named by the date they were taken, from the camera's own data.

It recognizes invoices, receipts, bank and card statements, contracts, letters and more, in ten languages.

How it decides

Each file gets a name and a confidence score. Clear files are renamed straight away, uncertain ones wait in Review, and unclear ones are left alone, so a wrong guess never replaces a file name.

If a name is already taken, the new file becomes Name (2).pdf. Nothing is ever overwritten, and every rename can be undone.

Where it works

Your Downloads folder by default. Free watches one folder; Pro watches as many as you like and adds your own naming rules.

Set it up in a minute

  1. wtfile をダウンロード and run the installer. No administrator rights needed.
  2. Choose your Downloads folder and how careful it should be.
  3. Download a document and watch it get a real name.

よくある質問

Does it rename files I already have?

Only if you ask. Scan now in Settings goes through a folder's existing files, and every result waits for your approval, so old files are never bulk-renamed by surprise.

Does it need the internet?

No. Files are read on your PC and never uploaded.

Which Windows versions?

Windows 10 and Windows 11. A Mac version is coming.
